Holders of foreign pilot licenses may receive a license validation by the NATA trainers for the granting of a charter and Namibian Fliglicense NATA planes for their tours.
Fly requirements & procedures for a namibian validation
This information will be for the Namibian license validation a self-Flying Pilots:
Radio & Airlaw test
One and a half hour usually is needed for the test. At first the client will be briefed on all necessary ATC information, procedures and details of the airspace in Namibia. The written radio & airlaw test which follows is free of charge and a corresponding booklet for preparation is obtainable at the Pilot Shop next to NATA
A grade II or III flight instructor is authorised to complete the check flight. The client should have announced date and time of arrival preferably a month in advance. The remaining necessary documents for issuing the temporary Namibian licence are:
Last three pages of the logbook with a short summary of all the hours flown on Cessna aircraft and flown hours on other types of aircraft.
- Copy of the valid pilot license
- Copy of medical (in English)
- Documents of radio & airlaw test and check flight
All check flights are commenced through an examiner and the costs should be settled directly by the client or through NATA if desired.
Obtaining a validation at the DCA approximately will take one hour. However, we would advise the guests to stay overnight in Windhoek in the event of any unforeseen delays.
Aircraft Insurance (Excess Insurance)
Beside the hour rate for the aircraft an additional fee for Charter/ Hire & Fly has to be paid by the client and will vary according to the recorded hours flown by the client. The client has the obligation to get coverage at a minimal fee enabling him to avoid paying the excess or deductible insurance amount of N$ 20,000; which is payable in the event of any accident or any damage caused to the aircraft. With the Pilots Excess Policy, the amount of N$ 20,000 is insured down to N$ 0. The additional premium to be paid on the aircraft for Hire & Fly will vary from aircraft to aircraft and the flying experience of the pilot.
Namibian Airports company fees
All the landing fees and passenger taxes during Charter & Fly should be settled directly at following airports: Hosea Kutako (Windhoek International), Katima Mulilo, Eros, Ondangwa, Rundu , Oranjemund, Keetmanshoop, Walvisbay, Swakopmund and Luderitz. Please note that some private airstrips will also charge a minimal fee (depending on the itinerary).
If the client decides to use a safety pilot or in case of any uncertainties the following will apply. NATA may insist on a safety pilot when it is not satisfied with the quality of demonstrated flying skills or when a check flight was failed. Minimum of 2 hours per day is required. Please note: Pilot meals and accommodation is excluded and should be settled by the client.
